In this keynote, Dr. Sander will focus on a framework for developing trauma sensitive schools with a key emphasis on creating environments that support both students and staff. He will discuss how adversity and toxic stress can impact student’s biological, physiological and social development and how we must take that knowledge and build environments that promote resilience in students and staff. Dr. Sander will highlight ways that staff can interact and support students that have experienced adverse childhood experiences to build and strengthen their resiliency. Focusing on moving from punitive punishment to compassion accountability, attendees will learn about how moving from thinking about behavior as willful disobedience to lagging skills can help them better partner with students to find effective solutions to help promote social emotional growth.
