When students engage in mathematical discourse, teachers are provided an opportunity to listen and learn more about the math they understand. Students also learn to analyze differences between strategies and justify the ones they agree with. This session will highlight why these are important aspects of communication in mathematics, and demonstrate how these strategies can be developed from the earliest years.
