In this session, presenters will identify key strategies used to connect and engage youth and young adults who are culturally influenced by technology, entertainment, and socialization with peers. Presenters will review failed and successful culturally-based programs in order to highlight what works, what doesn't, and other considerations when purposed to serve children, youth, and youth adults from challenged, poverished, and underserved communities. The session will offer research-based after school enrichment activities that focuses on improvement of self-esteem, leadership, social and emotional skills and creative arts talents. Presenters will discuss their work with urban youth through various arts-based programs created by the founders of Brandon House Cultural & Performing Arts Center.
